How to Takeoff Area Measurements from an IFC File.

Select Cell for Measurement

To use the take-off tool to calculate the area of an item, first focus on the item in your estimate. The area calculation for the selected item will be displayed at the bottom of the screen.

Your area measurement will be presented in the cell highlighted in yellow. You can also select other cells, such as width and height, to trace additional measurements if needed.

Enable the Area Measurement Tool

Enable the trace toggle in the takeoff toolbar, if it is not already activated.

The trace toggle is always activated unless you click the select tool. This means you can move from cell to cell to perform takeoffs without needing to click the toggle each time.

Click the dropdown on the trace toggle and select “Trace Area” if needed.

This will change the trace tool for all future takeoffs until you change it again.

Choose the desired line style (colour). You can change the line style later as you trace.

Measuring the Area of an Object

To measure the area of an object, follow these steps:

Selecting a Face: Click on the face of the object to measure its area. The area of the selected face will be displayed.

Adding Multiple Faces: Continue clicking on additional faces to accumulate a total area measurement. The areas of all selected faces will be summed up.

Deselecting a Face: To remove a face from the total area measurement, click again on the previously selected face. It will be deselected and subtracted from the total.
